Samsung Shatters Tech Records with 107 Trillion Won Q3 Operating Profit on AI Surge

SEOUL, South Korea — Samsung Electronics posted historic third-quarter earnings on Thursday, driven by an unprecedented surge in demand for memory chips fueling artificial intelligence data centers worldwide.

The South Korean technology titan reported an operating profit of 107.4 trillion won ($80.5 billion) for the July–September period, marking a 783.1% surge from the 12.2 trillion won logged during the same period last year.

The milestone marks the first time in history that any tech company has crossed 100 trillion won in operating profit within a single quarter.

Key Financial Highlights: Q3 2026

  • Operating Profit: 107.4 trillion won ($80.5 billion), up 783.1% year-on-year.
  • Net Profit: 75.1 trillion won, climbing 514.6% from the previous year.
  • Total Sales: 195.2 trillion won.
  • Shareholder Returns: Samsung declared a third-quarter dividend of 30 trillion won, equivalent to 4,601 won per share.

The AI Server Boom Drives Memory Expansion

The global rush to develop AI infrastructure and deploy next-generation foundation models has transformed the memory chip industry. Advanced memory architectures—critical for accelerators deployed across hyper-scale data centers—faced tight supply environments throughout the quarter.

Samsung attributed its record performance to tight capacity and strategic product allocation.

“The memory business achieved another record-breaking quarter by managing its product mix, with a focus on AI products, amid capacity constraints,” Samsung stated in a regulatory filing. “Strong demand momentum for servers led to higher market prices across all applications.”

Competitors across the semiconductor landscape have experienced similar windfalls. Peer chipmaker SK Hynix also reported strong earnings this week, underlining an industry-wide supply squeeze that analysts expect could extend well into next year.

Market Reaction and Valuation Scrutiny

Despite posting record-shattering figures, the results narrowly missed lofty Wall Street forecasts. A Bloomberg consensus of analysts had anticipated quarterly operating profit closer to 108.5 trillion won and net profit around 89.4 trillion won.

Samsung shares slipped 2.4% during Thursday morning trading in Seoul as investors weighed broad macroeconomic risks against long-term capital expenditure durability in the AI infrastructure sector.

Even with near-term stock turbulence, Samsung remains optimistic about sustained tailwinds. The company signaled that demand for server components, enterprise-grade flash storage, and high-performance semiconductors remains resilient, reinforcing that the broader AI supercycle continues to anchor its core balance sheet.
