Making More Money with AI Without Replacing Your Job

Ian Utile on Making More Money with AI Without Replacing Your Job at PBWx2024At the PBWx2024 last September 24 at the Bataan People’s Center, Founder of ÂTTN.LIVE and Producer of Web3ÂI Ian Utile and creator of Founder’s Story Daniel Robbins took the stage to discuss “The Future of Web3 and AI.” Their conversation covered a range of topics, including decentralization, the future of work, and how AI is reshaping industries.

One of the key highlights of the discussion was Ian’s take on using AI to earn more money without completely changing careers. Contrary to the common fear that AI will replace human jobs, Ian emphasized that AI is a tool for augmentation, helping professionals increase their productivity and income while still remaining in their current roles.

AI Will Make You More Productive, Not Replace You

Daniel opened the discussion by mentioning a striking statistic from IBM: Over 1 billion people worldwide will need to be reskilled due to AI. In response, Ian painted a different picture from the fear-driven narrative that AI will eliminate jobs. Instead, he believes AI will allow workers to do their jobs better and earn more.

Ian used a call center employee as an example. A typical call center agent might handle 10 calls an hour, but with AI-driven automation, they could handle 50 or even 1,000 calls per hour. This doesn’t mean they lose their job—it means they become far more efficient, more valuable, and possibly even earn more.

He also extended this analogy to other professions:

  • Truck drivers and bus drivers: With autonomous vehicles, drivers may no longer need to focus entirely on the road. Instead, they could host community discussions, teach, create content, or even run a podcast while driving.
  • Content creators and marketers: AI-powered tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Descript can automate tedious tasks, allowing them to focus on creativity and scaling their business.
  • Finance and consulting professionals: AI can analyze financial data faster, helping experts provide more timely and insightful recommendations to their clients.

His point was clear: AI isn’t here to replace humans, but to make them significantly more effective at what they do.

AI and Web3: The Most Powerful Combination

Ian also spoke about the game-changing impact of combining AI with Web3. He shared an analogy comparing AI and Web3 to different types of soil, explaining that businesses using only one of these technologies might still be fruitful, but nothing compares to the exponential growth possible when they are combined.

His reasoning?

  • AI automates tasks and increases efficiency, making industries more productive.
  • Web3 introduces decentralized systems that can create trust, transparency, and new economic models.

By merging the two, businesses and individuals can maximize the potential of both technologies, unlocking greater financial and operational opportunities.

The Future of Work: Reskilling, Apprenticeships, and Education Reform

Ian believes that the education system is broken and needs a major shift toward apprenticeship-based learning. He pointed out that while industries like transportation and communication have evolved rapidly, education has remained largely the same for over 100 years.

In his vision, future education will revolve around apprenticeships, where students learn directly from experts in their field rather than just sitting in classrooms. Instead of simply following influencers online, young professionals will work alongside them, gaining hands-on experience.

He also predicted that universities will adapt, integrating AI and blockchain into education by using AI-powered dialogue-based learning and blockchain-backed certification systems.

Fear vs. Optimism: Choosing How to View AI’s Impact

Daniel then asked Ian if there was anything about AI that scared him. Ian’s response was unexpected but inspiring—he simply refuses to operate out of fear.

He noted that throughout history, every major technological advancement—from the invention of the car to the rise of the internet—was initially feared but eventually used for good. He criticized the fear-driven narratives in movies and media, explaining that people are conditioned to be afraid of AI, even when history shows that innovation ultimately benefits humanity.

Instead of fearing AI, Ian urged people to embrace an optimistic mindset:

“If you believe you can create a career, a life, and a world that is benefited by AI and Web3, most likely that will be true.”

The Philippines: The Country Poised to Benefit the Most from AI and Web3

One of Ian’s most powerful statements in the discussion was about the impact of AI and Web3 on the Philippines.

He believes the Philippines is one of the countries that will benefit the most from these technologies, even more than the U.S. or Europe. Filipinos, he said, are hardworking, service-oriented, and resilient—qualities that will enable them to thrive in the AI and Web3 era.

While developed nations may experience a 2x or 10x improvement in their lifestyle from AI, Ian believes that countries like the Philippines could see a 50x or even 100x impact as technology levels the playing field and creates new opportunities for digital work, decentralized finance, and AI-enhanced careers.

Making More Money with AI, AI Will Make You More, Not Less

As Ian and Dan wrapped up their discussion, the key takeaway was clear: AI is a tool for making more money, not for taking away jobs.

By integrating AI into existing careers, professionals can become more productive, handle more work, and ultimately increase their earning potential. Those who learn how to leverage AI and Web3 together will have the greatest competitive advantage in the future workforce.
